But, let's face it, we still want to add movies, music, and TV shows to our iPhones. We also want to save our photos and videos directly to our Macs from time to time. That’s when we need to sync our iPhones with iTunes.

iTunes doesn’t just help you sync your media. Here are some other popular syncing options to get the most of your iPhone and Mac:

These are easy to sync in iTunes or by turning on iCloud sync in each app. A little more challenging is how to sync Outlook calendar with iPhone.

Recently, Outlook 2016 had problems syncing with iTunes but the problem seems to have been resolved. Just make sure everything is up to date.

To sync Outlook calendar with your iPhone follow these steps:

1. Make sure the iTunes plugin is added to Outlook plugins (File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins). Note - Outlook 2016 doesn’t use the plugin to sync anymore so it won’t be there for this version.
2. Connect your iPhone to your Mac and launch iTunes.
3. In iTunes click on your iPhones name and then click on the Info tab.
4. Scroll down to calendars and choose the calendars you want synced.
5. Click Apply.

The same method can be used to sync Outlook contacts with your iPhone - just look for the Contacts section on the Info tab.

If connecting your iPhone to your Mac via a cable feels like a strait jacket, you can now break free by setting up a sync through your Wi-Fi connection. That’s right, no more looking for cables. If only we could charge this way as well…hey Apple, what are you waiting for?

There is a downside to this freedom; the speeds won’t be as fast as when connected with a cable. But if you value convenience over speed, let’s get to the steps you’ll need to setup wireless iPhone sync with Mac.

1. Unfortunately you’ll need your USB cable to set up Wi-Fi syncing for the first time.
2. Connect your iPhone to your Mac via your cable.
3. Launch iTunes and click on the iPhone icon.
4. Click on the Summary tab.
5. Under Options check the Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi box and click Apply.
6. Now you can remove the cable. Freedom is at hand!

That’s it. Now, in future, when your iPhone connects to the same Wi-Fi connection it will be available for syncing in iTunes.

iPhone backups can take up a lot of space. You may find that you have old backups that aren’t needed anymore or a current backup that you’d like to move to an external drive or the cloud to save space on your system.

Remove Photos Cache

If you want to maintain access to your contacts on iOS stored on your Windows 10 PC in the People app, here is how you do it.

While Apple would certainly like you to get a Mac to match your iPhone, it’s definitely not a requirement. Windows 10 PCs can play almost as nicely with iOS devices as an Apple computer can. This includes support for Microsoft apps and services, like Outlook and Exchange. You can even sync your contacts from the Windows 10 People app to your iPhone. There are some limitations—syncing from your Windows 10 PC to your iPhone works well, but the other way around, not so much.

Let’s take a look.

Keep Contacts Between Windows 10 and iOS Synced

These days, more users are choosing a more practical setup: a Windows 10 notebook, and an Apple iPhone or iPad. But you probably want to keep some things like contacts synced between the two without getting sucked into either platform. If you are using a Microsoft Account, then, there is little you need to do to sync your contacts.

In iOS open, the Settings app then scroll to Accounts & Passwords.

Tap Add Account.

Choose Outlook.com.

Sign in with your Outlook.com email address and password and approve the access, if prompted.

Toggle on the items you want to sync. For me, I just want the contacts, so I only toggle that option on.

And that’s it.

What about syncing from iCloud to the People app in Windows 10?

Unfortunately, no, Apple doesn’t support this – I tried. You would have to do it manually by exporting your contacts from iCloud as a .csv like we showed you in our previous article on importing contacts into Gmail. So, this is a one-way street, which means, you should first add your contacts to the People app if you want to keep this easy.

You can manage how contacts are synced too. Tap the Fetch New Data menu, tap Outlook Push contacts option then choose when you want new contacts to be synced, which ranges from hourly, manually or automatically.
